Mud Madness!

March is a darn interesting month. Why? The NCAA tournament is fun. And baseball Spring Training gets me excited for the National Pastime. Most interestingly, it's the start of Mud Season - New England's unofficial fifth season of the year.

Why a fifth season? Well, Winter kinda feels over. But huge dumps of snow often come after the clocks change.
Or after Spring's official start.
Or after April 1st. (Fooled you!)
Or after Easter.
Ugh.

Let's face it: Spring won't be here for a while, kids, no matter what the calendar or the groundhog says.
I'm guessing Mud Season runs until about April 15th, when the last real threat of snow is over, and you aren't in danger of sinking up to your mid-calf when you take your first rose-colored strides onto your lawn to rake a few fallen branches.

But it is warmer. And moister. The ice cream stands are opening. Today, it was 65ยบ, and it's still officially winter.
If you're still saying "bah" to the idea of a fifth season, then go ahead and pretend it's Spring.
I'll be laughing while you're clearing the snow off of your deck chairs.

But I guess I shouldn't as I am sitting in the sun in Florida and might go to Dairy Queen as a precursor to dinner. Everyone should.
